3rd Commission workshop on the Roadmap towards phasing out animal testing for chemical safety
- News
On 16th/17th June 2025 our Scientific consultant, Dr Katy Taylor was a panelist at the 3rd Commission workshop on the Roadmap towards phasing out animal testing for chemical safety.
The event was hosted by the European Chemicals Agency, ECHA in Helsinki and was attended by 150 participants in person and 400 online.
At the event the Commission presented their plans for the roadmap including potential new organisational structures that will implement the roadmap actions. We also discussed indicators of success as well as which animal tests they think can be removed in the short, medium and long term.
Katy was invited to participate as an NGO panellist in the last session dedicated to feedback on the progress with the roadmap so far. Katy said that we were pleased to see that the process of developing the roadmap has brought industry, academics, regulators and stakeholders together towards a common goal. She stressed that following the publication of the roadmap that EU citizens wanted to see an end to animal testing and that there was an expectation that significant changes to the regulatory process need to be made.
This was the final opportunity to influence the roadmap development before it is published early next year.
We are hopeful that the Commission will set up a new body to oversee the roadmap implementation and that this will be the start of a concerted effort to drive out animal testing for chemicals and other substances for good!
